UPDATE! 25 Oct 2010

It is with great sadness that I write this update. On the 25th October 2010 my little sister sadly passed away at the age of 31. She had bravely battled MND for 11 years. She had never given up and had achieved to much even after developing MND, winning the Open University award for achievement to gaining a degree. She will be greatly missed and will for ever be in our thoughts. Love you sis :D

Well where to start, it was all originally done as I was carry to much weight and wanted to loose it. Which I am sure it most peoples story begins, however after loosing the weight I actually started to enjoy running outside. Joined some forums (BCTTT & Runners World), there inspiration and helpfullness has helped me a lot. Now I am also swimming and commuting a couple of times a week to work on my bike! Now since 2011 I accomplished more than I thought I ever would or could. From 5k runs to an Ironman in 2014 and The Outlaw in 2015. In 2016 I am going down a different route, I will be trying Ultra's as you can see from my events I have already entered 3 so far. Now I thought wait a minute I need to have one more motivation and that people is my sister Emma. Since the age of 20 she was very unfortunate and developed MND (Motor Neurone Disease), she is now 31 years of Age. Her health has deteriatated over the years and we nearly lost her last year. My mum had to give up her work and become a full time carer for my sister and my dad takes over the duties when he comes home from work. All the races I do will be in aid of my sister and all money raised will be donated to MND to help raise awareness and research in the disease. Thanks for all your help and enjoy my training blog,

Has it been that long!

I cannot believe my last post was at the end of March. So much has happened since then. Yes I did and finished my 1st ever triathlon. Report is below.

Well finally after months of anticipation and being nervous on the lead up to my 1st Sprint triathlon. I Completed it :D

Got there on the Saturday, as I was taking the family (they wanted to see my do my 1st triathlon). Have to say the hotel we stayed at was really nice not only did it have ensuite but Erin had a room of her own inbetween our room and the ensuite! You can guess who had a good night. Went to Tesco’s picked up some bananas and water for the following day. Had dinner and went to bed. Never slept much the anticipation, nervousness, excitement was getting the better of me.

Sunday – Race day. Up at 7:15am went down stairs had some breakfast 2 weetabix with Alpen and a couple of slices of toast and a coffee. Checked out the hotel and headed to the swimming pool. Got parked at the primary school. Saw Steve (Shadowone1) got myself checked in and numbered…….I was 139, still got the number on think I will need a brillo pad to take it off.

Anyway got the bike racked my transition area ready waterbottle filled, my other waterbottle filled with nuun.

There was a briefing to let everyone know what was happening………..oooh I had a green swim cap they are errr different feeling to wear. Anyway after the briefing it was to head to the pool side and get ready as I was heat 1 lane 3. Got myself in the pool I was to be the 4th to go (Mind you there was only 3 in our lane some people cancelled). Googles on check, earplugs in check, hat on check. Time to go. I was aiming for 30mins as that is roughly what I had been in the pool in training. Got myself I thought at a steady pace well I thought I did, you see that word pace I have always even in training in the pool found hard to do……….yes you guessed it I went for it all guns blazing. I tapped the guy in front 4 times and I got tapped once. Did have to resort to doing the breast stroke a couple of times, but was not bothered. Before I knew what was happening got tapped in the head to let me know I was on my final 2 lengths. Went for it got out and looked at my watch and managed to do it in about 18-19mins, well chuffed with that time. However this is where it started to go wrong.

T1 got round to my bike the last rack. Took a big drink of nuun, Oooooh dear, never had this before and yes I know the golden rule NEVER NEVER try anything new on race day. Got my helmet on check, Glasses on check, ankle socks check, bike check, then I was nearly away and thought I have forgotten something and guess what I had, shoes I forgot to put on the bike shoes. Just aswell I was only 1 metre away. Shoes on and now I was ready, however my stomach was not feeling too good. Got to that bloody first hill and I could feel the nuun coming back on me got a quarter of the way up the hill and guess what happened…………………..I spewed all the nuun up knew I should not of tried that. Felt like shit the rest of the bike journey. I was aiming for about 1hr. The journey was uneventful the guy I tapped in the pool 4 times flew past me. Had to stop about 10K into the bike and be sick again……….nuun again. I did take loads of sips of water to settle the stomach, should of taken a banana instead I am used to that. As for the weather OMG it was roasting. There was a lot of head wind on the bike going down the hill. Got back from the bike leg and some strange reason did it in about 49-50mins. Bike racked.

Trainers on and away we go waved to the family as they cheered me on. Got about ½ mile into the run and yup major stitch continued though was not giving up. All of the run is cross country. A lot of stop start in the run was disappointed in the run as I was aiming for 25mins in the run could barely move without the stitch playing up had water with me. Lap 1 done and had 1 more to do. Stitch eased a bit so went into a very slow jog but still l could feel it but put the pain to the side as I knew this was it. Saw the finish line and the wife and daughter with cameras as I came running through it in a time of about 33-34mins.

Knackered yup, did I enjoy it hell yes. Did I make mistakes most def with the nuun will not be doing that again can still taste it when I burp! Well organised event with food put on for all. Then I headed down the road.

Got home lasted 2 hours or so and fell asleep. Did not even manage to finish my beer.
