UPDATE! 25 Oct 2010

It is with great sadness that I write this update. On the 25th October 2010 my little sister sadly passed away at the age of 31. She had bravely battled MND for 11 years. She had never given up and had achieved to much even after developing MND, winning the Open University award for achievement to gaining a degree. She will be greatly missed and will for ever be in our thoughts. Love you sis :D

Well where to start, it was all originally done as I was carry to much weight and wanted to loose it. Which I am sure it most peoples story begins, however after loosing the weight I actually started to enjoy running outside. Joined some forums (BCTTT & Runners World), there inspiration and helpfullness has helped me a lot. Now I am also swimming and commuting a couple of times a week to work on my bike! Now since 2011 I accomplished more than I thought I ever would or could. From 5k runs to an Ironman in 2014 and The Outlaw in 2015. In 2016 I am going down a different route, I will be trying Ultra's as you can see from my events I have already entered 3 so far. Now I thought wait a minute I need to have one more motivation and that people is my sister Emma. Since the age of 20 she was very unfortunate and developed MND (Motor Neurone Disease), she is now 31 years of Age. Her health has deteriatated over the years and we nearly lost her last year. My mum had to give up her work and become a full time carer for my sister and my dad takes over the duties when he comes home from work. All the races I do will be in aid of my sister and all money raised will be donated to MND to help raise awareness and research in the disease. Thanks for all your help and enjoy my training blog,

1st Triathlon looms ever closer

Well as you know from my last update I have a new bike, which I took out for her maiden ride on Sunday there and that was sweet did have a weeee problem, actually my stupidity..............switch to the wrong gear going up a hill, slipped and off the came the chain.............grrrrr. Something I have never done and hope never to do again. Apart from that it was a great 11K cycle round East Kilbride. Even bought a 2XU tri suit, which I did wear aswell. The clip pedals are much easier to use than my last shimano SPD's, I use the Look Keo Easy's.

I am in search of sponsorships from companies to lend a hand in my new venture, remember this is all in aid of charity. All monies raised at any of the events will go towards Motor Neurone Disease Scotland. Just dawned on me that I have not actually said what M.N.D is.

Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks the upper and lower motor neurones. Degeneration of the motor neurones leads to weakness and wasting of muscles, causing increasing loss of mobility in the limbs, and difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing.
As MND progresses, the motor neurones of the body are gradually damaged. This blocks the stimulating signals from the brain reaching the muscles, causing them to weaken.  It can affect any adult at any age but most people diagnosed with the disease are over the age of 40, with the highest incidence occurring between the ages of 50 and 70

There is more details of M.N.D here

My sister Emma at the time was only 20yrs old when she was diagnosed with M.N.D and as you can see that is 20yrs younger than when most people were diagnosed with M.N.D. If I am not mistaken Emma was the youngest person in Scotland to ever have been diagnosed with M.N.D.

Now with that I have explained some of the disease (please feel free to ask questions) to you I hope that you will be able to help me in my ventures, some people say I am mad doing this but hey it is all for a good cause, plus I get fit in the process!!.

As my title says my 1st ever Triathlon looms, 17th April. Not many training sessions left. Meeting up with Steven another member of BCTTT to do a reccie of the bike route on Saturday will see if how I manage looking forward to it all anyway. There is a thought of actually doing a swim session right before the bike session, but we will see how that goes lol. I have been training honest, Just starting spin session on Monday mornings at 7:30am every Tuesday doing swim sessions with the Glasgow Tri Club, Wednesday Total Body Workout and American Flag Football, Thursday swim session on my own. Friday a run session Saturday a cycle. Sunday is a rest day or better known as a family day. Had not many problems with the knee, still feeling twinges every now and again. At the moment my arms are sooooooooooooooooooooore. I will update soon, hope to see some of you out there :D.
