UPDATE! 25 Oct 2010

It is with great sadness that I write this update. On the 25th October 2010 my little sister sadly passed away at the age of 31. She had bravely battled MND for 11 years. She had never given up and had achieved to much even after developing MND, winning the Open University award for achievement to gaining a degree. She will be greatly missed and will for ever be in our thoughts. Love you sis :D

Well where to start, it was all originally done as I was carry to much weight and wanted to loose it. Which I am sure it most peoples story begins, however after loosing the weight I actually started to enjoy running outside. Joined some forums (BCTTT & Runners World), there inspiration and helpfullness has helped me a lot. Now I am also swimming and commuting a couple of times a week to work on my bike! Now since 2011 I accomplished more than I thought I ever would or could. From 5k runs to an Ironman in 2014 and The Outlaw in 2015. In 2016 I am going down a different route, I will be trying Ultra's as you can see from my events I have already entered 3 so far. Now I thought wait a minute I need to have one more motivation and that people is my sister Emma. Since the age of 20 she was very unfortunate and developed MND (Motor Neurone Disease), she is now 31 years of Age. Her health has deteriatated over the years and we nearly lost her last year. My mum had to give up her work and become a full time carer for my sister and my dad takes over the duties when he comes home from work. All the races I do will be in aid of my sister and all money raised will be donated to MND to help raise awareness and research in the disease. Thanks for all your help and enjoy my training blog,

Swimathon

Woohoo,

At last the time had come to do one of my challenges that I had set myself last year. I signed up to do the 2.5km swimathon challenge :D. I was nervous even though it was not a race it was to me a where I was in my training. I had set myself the target of 1hr to the swim.
Before the Event
Now bearing in mind that the Ironman swim is 3.8km (1.3km) more than what I was doing. This was going to be a test of will power and mental strength. 100 laps in a pool, the furthest that I have ever swam non stop.
I arrived at the pool, Erin goes here for her swimming lessons. To be told that there was only going to be 5 more people taking part. 1x1.5km, 3x2.5km and 2x5km. They had 3 lanes 2 people a lane. I was in the lane with the other person doing the 1.5km swim. We decided it would be best if we split the lanes I would stay to the left of the lane and her to the right. This actually worked out better than I thought and glad I did do it.
The hour before I sipped on my nuun and took a banana then with 10mins before the swim took a gel. Lets see if that was enough to keep me going. Did my usual stretching at the side of the pool and yes so did some of the other's.
Swim hat on with my tempo pro underneath. Then it was time to start my 100 laps. 99, 98, 97, 96....... felt like it was never ending. Even lost count and I could feel myself slowing down and loose my way. I did check my watch a couple of times to see where I was in the way of laps not timing. Eventually I heard from the person counting my laps that I had 10 to go. So I continued at the same pace (did not want to increase all about the pacing) to be told I only had 2 laps to go. At last I had finished to see Erin come out to congratulate me. My arms were tired but I did not feel as bad as I first thought I would.

My official time was.......00:52:53
After the Event
Yas I beat the time I set myself. As you can see from the pic after the event, I look shattered but my dad thought it would be funny to take this litterly as I got out the pool. I should not of climbed out the pool, should of used the stairs provided as cramp set in. Ouch.

But there we go challenge one down 3 more to go till the main event.
